Connecticut is home to the nation’s oldest public library, located in Scoville.
The library’s collection began in 1771 when a local blast furnace owner, used the contributions from local citizens to purchase 200 books. Library patrons where thereupon able to borrow books, the books had to be returned by the third Monday of every third month and damages were collected.
Something called “greasing” occurred, this was due to candle wax dripping on the pages. Like most states many opt to file their taxes electronically instead of via paper. The reason for this is that it is much faster and leaves less of a carbon footprint. Most major tax preparers and accounting firms now offer the option to their clients.
