New Jersey was admitted to statehood December 18, 1787 making it the 3rd state. Trenton is the capital city. The state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch and the Violet is the state flower.
The Economy in New Jersey
The economy is fed by agriculture (dairy products, seafood, fruits and nuts, vegetables, horses and nursery stock) and industries including chemical products, electric equipment, food processing, printing/publishing and tourism.
New Jersey’s gross state product was $487-billion (2010) and the unemployment rate was 9% in January 2012. The state is noted as having the highest tax rate, does not assess a personal property tax but has an inheritance tax.
