Ohio was the 17th state to join the union on March 1, 1803. Columbus is the capital city. The state bird is the Cardinal and the state flower is the Scarlet Carnation.
The state got its name from the Iroquois Indian name for ‘good river.’

Ohio’s gross domestic product was $478-million (2010) and the unemployment rate was 10.7% (May 2010).
The state was ranked 10th for best business-friendly tax systems by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council in their Business Tax Index in 2009.
