The “Show Me State”
Missouri is best known as the “Show Me State”, it was so coined when Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver stated in a speech at a Philadelphia naval banquet, “I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me.”
Missouri In Good Shape Financially
In more recent history the state has shown that it can manage money with the best of them, the state surpluses have left the parties trying to figure out what to do with the extra funds. Some are pushing for deeper tax cuts, others want to put the money back into the community to help schools and other social organizations.
